Analysis of Baby Driver
Point 1
Character- Baby
Hero
mis-en-scene-
- comes and 'saves the day' from the crime scene
- helps the criminals escape
Camera evidence-
- tracking shot follows him running away from the police and helping the other members not get caught. (not the stereotypically hero because he is running away from the police, but helping the members)
- close up shots of his face adds importance to him, emphasise the job couldn't go ahead without him
Sound Evidence-
- silence. no diegetic sound- lack of sound represents him as heroic- knows what he's doing, no stressing, doesn't need to talk to the other people about the plan
Editing evidence
- eye line match- he's looking at the crime in action, connotes he's preparing himself to get ready to 'run'
Point 2
Character- Other members
Scary
mis-en-scene-
- facial expressions- serious, scary.
- criminals- they rob a bank
- glasses hide their identity, group them as one. Adds a layer of mystery and fear.
- Use weapons- guns
Camera Evidence-
- close ups of their faces- shows their serious facial expressions
Sound evidence-
- Alarms going off- danger, tension rises
Point 3
Character- Baby
calm and experienced
Mis-en-scene-
- bops along to the music
- doesn't cause a scene, knows exactly what to do when they get in the car
- has a calm and collected way of being despite doing something scary
Camera shots-
- medium shots used to show finger tapping, showing he's calm- he's going along to music whilst committing a crime- unusual.
Sound-
- lack of dialogue, no stress, knows what to do without communication, just gets on with it.
Editing evidence-
- lots of cuts his dancing to music, keeps the fast pace of the scene, audience interested.
Point 4
Character- Baby
Brave
Mis-en-scene-
- criminals relying on him, leave him waiting in the car. Represents him as trustworthy and loyal. Also brave because he is at risk and has the control of getting them caught.
- Under a lot of pressure- is driving them away.
- doesn't 'crack' under pressure, just gets on with it
Camera shots-
- close ups of his face- adds importance, hero like
- zooms in on him- brings audiences attention to him
Sound evidence-
- lack of sound, doesn't complain about anything or get angry, represents him as trapped but also brave for getting on with it.
